AL leader's son stabbed dead in Dinajpur

A Juba League leader and a son of a ruling Awami League leader were killed in separate incidents in Jessore and Dinajpur on Friday night.

Arafat Munnaf Liton, 40, joint secretary of Juba League, Jessore town unit and son of Abdul Munaf Manu, was killed in an attack around 10:45pm, reports our correspondent in Benapole.

Fazlur Rahman Milon, 42, activist of the youth wing of the ruling party, was wounded in the attack believed to be a result of factional feud.

Abul Bashar Mia, acting officer-in-charge of Kotwali police, said assailants stabbed to death the Juba League leader when he along with some others was watching a World Cup Football match at the party office.

The attackers hurled two bombs and left the spot, he said, adding, Liton died in Faridpur on way to Dhaka.

The victim had several marks of knife wounds in his body, hospital sources said.

Ramjanul Islam, Liton's cousin, filed a case with Kotwali police against 15 named and 10-12 unnamed people.

M Dilu, Liton's elder brother who is also an activist of the ruling party, alleged that his foes within the party had carried out the attack.

In the other incident, unidentified assailants stabbed Ires Uddin Ahmed, 33, son of Moyez Uddin, president of ruling AL's Ward No. 12 unit under Dinajpur municipality, in Kasba area of the town, reports Our Dinajpur Correspondent.

Quoting family members, police said the attackers stabbed Ires and escaped around 9:30pm. Locals rushed him to M Abdur Rahim Medical College Hospital in a critical state where he died after an hour.

Nazmul Ahmed, inspector (Investigation), said a murder case was filed with Sadar police yesterday.
