Jessore police claimed to have recovered two bullet-hit bodies of drug peddlers in Monirampur upazila of the district early this morning.

The bodies were recovered from near Monirampur road at Begaritola-Chatiantola Beel of the upazila, our Benapole correspondent reports quoting police.

Identities of the deceased, both aged around 30, were not available when this report was filed at 1:42pm.

Police sent the bodies to Jessore General Hospital morgue.

One body has two bullet wounds on the head and the other body bears one bullet wound, a source at the hospital told the correspondent.

A team of law enforcers there conducted a drive at around 5:00am as they had been tipped-off about a gunfight between two rival groups of drug peddlers, Mokarrom Hossain, officer-in-charge (OC) of Monirampur Police Station, told the correspondent.

Leaving the two bodies behind, the criminals fled the spot sensing the presence of the law enforcers, the OC said.

With the latest addition, the number of dead in the ongoing nationwide anti-narcotics drives rises up to at least 159.
