Liton submits nomination paper for RCC polls
Awami League nominated mayoral candidate AHM Khairuzzaman Liton today submitted nomination paper for contesting in the upcoming mayoral election of Rajshahi City Corporation (RCC).
Flanked by a large number of party leaders and workers, Liton submitted his nomination paper to the returning officer in Rajshahi this noon.
Talking to journalists, Liton said the city people were deprived of development during last five years and that is why they want change this time.
He hoped that the people will chose him as the city mayor for the next five years. “I will do my level best to uplift the city if I am elected.”
Meanwhile, local city unit of 14-party alliance extended support to Liton in his mayoral election. The alliance took the decision in a meeting held at city unit office of Awami League in Rajshahi last week.
The meeting decided that all the alliance leaders and workers would work together to make the boat symbol win in the city polls scheduled to be held on July 30.
On the other hand, many other candidates for both mayoral and councilors were seen submitting their nomination papers today, the last date for submission of nomination papers.
Till yesterday afternoon, a total of 238 candidates collected nomination papers to contest in the upcoming RCC polls.
Of them, seven people collected nomination papers for mayoral post while 178 for general councilors and 53 for reserved seats for women.
Returning Officer Syed Amirul Islam will scrutinise the nomination papers on July 1 and 2, and July 9 has been set as the final date for withdrawal of candidature. Election symbols will be distributed among the candidates on July 10.
Amirul said all preparations were taken for holding the election on July 30.
After getting election symbol, the candidates can start their formal election campaign, he said.
