2 'outlaws' killed, Rab man shot in Tangail ‘gunfight’
--Injured Rab man rushed to Dhaka CMH
--3 outlaws shot, taken to Tangail hospital
--Firearms, magazine, bullets recovered from spot
Two outlaws were killed and a Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) member suffered bullet wounds during what Rab termed a "gunfight" in Tangail Sadar upazila early today.
Injured Monirul Islam, 34, a sub-inspector of Rab-12, was first taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital from where he was shifted to Combined Military Hospital, Maksudul Alam deputy director of Rab’s legal and media wing, told The Daily Star.
Deceased Akbar Hossain, 45, and Monu Miah, 35, were members of outlawed Purbo Banglar Communist Party, said Muhammad Mohiuddin Faruki, Tangail camp commander of Rab-12.
Acting on a tip-off, a team of Rab-12 raided a house at Moisha village where the outlaws were staying, our Tangail correspondent reports quoting Faruki.
Sensing their presence around 3:15am, the gang opened fire on the Rab members, forcing them to fire back that triggered the ‘gunfight’.
The gun battle left two outlaws dead while Rab man Monirul injured, Faruki said adding that the elite force was hit by bullet in his throat.
Three other outlaws also suffered bullet wounds during the “gunfight” and were admitted to Tangail General Hospital under police custody.
However, other criminals managed to escape the scene leaving a pistol, a shooter gun, a magazine, two bullets and several bullet shells on the spot.
