Tk 8.61cr Embezzlement: ACC sues 5 doctors, 4 staffers at RMCH

Accused also broke rules over Tk 9.54cr tender

The Anti-Corruption Commission has sued 13 people, including nine doctors and employees of Rangpur Medical College Hospital (RMCH), for embezzling Tk 8.61 crore of the hospital's fund and awarding a tender of Tk 9.54 crore without proper procedures.

Mohammad Sirajul Haque, assistant director of the ACC in Dhaka, filed the case with Rangpur Sadar Police Station on Saturday, said Babul Mia, officer-in-charge of the police station.

The nine accused are: former director of RMCH ASM Barkat Ullah, former assistant director Bimal Kumar Barman, former deputy director Paritosh Kumar Dasgupta, former deputy director Zahirul Haque, assistant director (finance and store) Shafiqul Islam, pharmacists and in-charge of medicine store Anisur Rahman and Moksedul Haque, and stewards Azizul Islam and Md Asaduzzaman.

Four other accused are: Monjur Ahmed, proprietor of Manila Medicines, Mosaddeque Hossain, proprietor of MH Pharma, Joynal Abedin, proprietor of Ovi Drugs, and Alamgir Hossain, proprietor of Alibaba Pharmacy.

According to the case statement, the accused misappropriated Tk 8.61 crore from medicine and patient's food allocation.

The nine doctors and employees of RMCH were also involved in giving work order of Tk 9,53,61,036 without floating any tender.

The corruption and irregularities happened in 2015-16 fiscal years, the statement added.
