2 killed in Dhaka road crash

Road accident in Dhaka Cantonment area

At least two people were killed and 15 others injured as a bus ran over a human hauler in Goran Chatbari area in Dhaka this morning.

One of the deceased was identified as Hannan, 22, the driver of the human hauler, and an elderly person, aged 65, is yet to be identified, Sub-Inspector Bachchu Mia, in-charge of Dhaka Medical College and Hospital Police Outpost, told The Daily Star.

Meanwhile, another thirty-year-old youth, injured in the accident, is undergoing treatment at the hospital, whose condition has been stated to be critical, he said.

A Savar-bound bus of “Mayer Doa Paribahan” hit the human hauler commonly known as Leguna which was coming from Savar around 7:30am, said Shafiqul Islam, Station Officer of Uttara Fire Service and Civil Defence.

Both the vehicles turned over following the collision causing the casualties, Imran Hasan, a garment employee, who witnessed the accident, told The Daily Star.

Police seized the vehicles while the bus staffers managed to flee the scene, said Abdul Aziz, a sub-inspector of Rupnagar Police Station.
