The High Court today directed the jail authorities to submit a report on the health condition of Hallmark Group Chairman Jasmine Islam to this court in two weeks.

Justice Md Nazrul Islam Talukder and Justice K M Hafizul Alam passed the order after hearing a rule issued earlier over granting bail to Jasmine, who is now in Kashimpur Jail in a corruption case.

The judges passed the order as Jasmine’s lawyer Advocate Abdul Matin Khasru told the court that his client is sick and physically very weak and he prayed to the court to grant her bail in the case.

The bench also adjourned hearing on the rule for next two weeks.

On July 11, a Dhaka court sentenced Jasmine to three years’ rigorous imprisonment in a case filed over her failure to submit wealth statement to the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) within the given time.

Yesterday, Deputy Attorney General AKM Amin Uddin Manik told The Daily Star that the ACC filed a case with Motijheel Police Station on November 1, 2016 against Jasmine and 15 others on charge of misappropriating Tk 85.87 crore of Janata Bank.

Following a bail petition filed by Jasmine, the HC on November 5 last year issued a rule asking the ACC and the government to explain why she should not be granted bail in this case.

Jasmine, wife of Hall-Mark Group Managing Director Tanvir Mahmud, is charge-sheeted in all 11 cases lodged by the ACC on October 4, 2012 on charges of misappropriating over Tk 1,568 crore.
