Detectives today claimed to have arrested four suspects of Special Branch (SB) Inspector Mamun Islam Khan murder case.
Members of Detective Branch (DB) of Police arrested the suspects from Badda and Hazaribagh areas of Dhaka last night, Masudur Rahman, deputy commissioner (media) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) told The Daily Star.
The arrestees are, Mizan Sheikh, Meherunnes Shorna alias Afrin, Suraiya Akhter alias Keya and Fariya Binte Mim, Masudur Rahman said.
Law enforcers will brief the media on the arrests later in the day.
On July 10, Gazipur police recovered the charred body of Mamun from the district's Kaliganj upazila.
The victim's elder brother, Jahangir Alam Khan then identified the body to be Mamun's after Gazipur police informed DB.
Later, the murder case was filed with Banani Police Station regarding the incident.
Inspector Mamun, 38, went out of his Sabujbagh residence on July 8 and did not return. His cell phone was found switched off.
His elder brother then filed a general diary with the Sabujbag Police Station the next day.
Earlier on July 12, a Dhaka court passed a seven-day remand order for the prime suspect in the case, Rahmat.
Rahmat was detained from capital's Uttara area on July 10 by a team of DB (East).
After receiving the missing person complaint, DB police started investigating the matter and detained Rahmat.
DB officials then came to know from Rahmat that he and his cohorts had killed Mamun and left his burnt body in Gazipur.
Police sources said the criminals trapped Mamun by calling him to a residence in Banani on the pretense of celebrating a model's birthday.
There, they killed him.
