Chhatra League men were blamed for assaulting quota reformists today, a day after Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina specifically ordered against such aggression.

According to claims, three quota reformist leaders were beaten up just outside Dhaka University campus shortly after wrapping up a pro-quota reform demonstration.

Ratul Sarkar, joint convener of Bangladesh Shadharan Chhatra Odhikar Sangrakkhan Parishad, the banner that is leading the quota reform demand, alleged that a group of people waylaid him and two of his friends at Shahbagh around 4:00pm and assaulted them.

According to what he told The Daily Star, Dhaka Unviersity Chhatra League’s Organising Secretary Saidur Rahman Ujjal and Zahurul Haque Hall’s Joint-secretary General Amir Hamza were present during the assault.

They were heading back home from the quota reform demonstration at Dhaka University that called out for justice over the spree of attacks on quota reformists and demanded that all cases against the activists be dropped.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina specifically told her Chhatra League leaders against “doing excess” over the quota issue, according to what Awami League’s General Secretary Obaidul Quader said today.

Apparently, she was referring to the barrage of attacks led by Chhatra League men against quota reformists all over the country; which was reported widely in the media.

The spree of attacks began since June 30, the day when Chhatra League men first launched offence against quota reform activists, carrying it through to recent times.
