AL believes in blame game: Fakhrul

BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir today criticised the prime minister for her comments over “blame game” saying that it is not BNP rather the ruling Awami League believes in such politics. 

“The ruling party men exploded bombs at a rally of our Rajshahi mayoral candidate in Sagarpara area of the city while the government is putting the blame on us. It means that Awami League believes in blame game, not BNP,” Fakhrul said while addressing a programme at the Jatiya Press Club in Dhaka this noon.

City Corporation Polls: Hasina accuses BNP of playing 'blame game'

On July 17, three crude bombs exploded at an election rally of BNP mayoral candidate Mosaddek Hossain Bulbul in Sagarpara area of Rajshahi, leaving at least three people injured.

Referring to the incident, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina yesterday at a meeting at the Gono Bhaban alleged that BNP has started playing a “blame game” after being rejected by people in the city corporation elections.

Citing the killing and arson attacks allegedly carried out by BNP in 2013, 2014 and 2015, the prime minister said the party has a habit of “hurling bombs and torching vehicles”.

“They will create an incident and later put blame on the Awami League. They are expert in staging drama … they want to draw international attention through it,” she said.

“Is it believable to anyone that our party men will explode bombs at our meeting?” Fakhrul posed a question, trashing the premier’s allegations.  

Police on Saturday arrested Rajshahi BNP General Secretary Matiur Rahman Montu over the incident after they found audio clip of an alleged phone conversation between him and BNP Assistant Office Secretary Saiful Islam Tipu.

Referring to the arrest, Fakhrul said, “It is nothing but a drama. Anyone can manufacture such audio clip of a phone conversation between me (Fakhrul) and the prime minister.”

About the quota reform movement, Fakhrul said the prime minister and her party’s senior leaders have started branding the quota reformists as anti-liberation forces only to ignore their demands.
