34 medicine stores fined Tk 56 lakh in Old Dhaka
Law enforcers today fined 34 medicine stores a total of Tk 56 lakh in Mitford area of Old Dhaka for selling unauthorised, adulterated and date-expired medicines.
A team of Rapid Action Battalion (Rab)-10 conducted a drive led by Sarwoer Alam, an executive magistrate of Rab, in the area which started at 12noon and ended at 9:00pm, reports our correspondent quoting the executive magistrate.
All the 34 medicine stores were located inside Janani Medicine Market in the area, the executive magistrate said, adding that the shops were selling unauthorised, adulterated and date-expired medicines.
He further mentioned that the stores were also selling medicines which were supposed to be distributed to the people for free as they were provided by the government.
Some of these stores were also preparing fake medicines in their own local factories and selling them using different brand names like Square Pharmaceuticals, Sarwoer Alam said.
Six owners of these medicine stores also received different jail terms from six months to one year, he added.
