Akbar Ali Khan's lecture on Islam in Bengal today
Eminent economist and scholar Dr Akbar Ali Khan will give a lecture on “The Spread of Islam in Bengal: Historical Issues Revisited” at the main auditorium of the National Museum in Dhaka today.
It is the sixth instalment of the Gyantapas Abdur Razzaq Distinguished Lecture series, says a press release. Dr Perween Hasan, vice chancellor of Central Women's University, will preside over the programme, which begins at 4:30pm.
Earlier, Professor Emeritus of Dhaka University Serajul Islam Choudhury, political scientist Prof Rounaq Jahan, National Professor Dr Anisuzzaman, writer Badruddin Umar, and economist Dr Rehman Sobhan delivered lectures under the initiative.
Their speeches dealt with class system, politics and democracy, Bengali nationalism, social and political changes, and inclusivity in society.
