BGB deployed in Rajshahi, Sylhet, Barisal ahead of city polls
Forty-four platoons of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) members have been deployed in Rajshahi, Sylhet, Barisal ahead of the city corporation elections.
Fifteen platoons of BGB were deployed each in Rajshahi and Barisal cities while 14 platoons in Sylhet since this morning, said a press release of BGB.
Besides, extra four platoons have been kept reserved in each of the three cities for emergency, the press release adds.
"If necessary, BGB is ready to prepared to deploy more troops," the press release also reads.
In Rajshahi, 450 BGB men have been deployed at all strategic points in the city since 8:00am today, said Shamim Iftekhar Alam, director of BGB battalion (Rajshahi).
The force will remain active until July 31, our Rajshahi correspondent reports quoting Shamim Iftekhar.
In Barisal, 15 platoons of BGB are seen patrolling the city while four platoons are reserved for emergency, said MD Helal Uddin, assistant returning officer in the district.
They will remain in service till publishing of the election results, our Barisal correspondent reports quoting the assistant returning officer.
Our Sylhet correspondent reports, 14 platoons of BGB have been deployed at different parts of the city to avert any untoward incident, Col Nasir Uddin, commanding officer of BGB Sylhet.
The city corporation polls will be held in Rajshahi, Barisal, and Sylhet on July 30.
