Jabal-e-Noor drivers, helpers remanded
A Dhaka court yesterday placed two drivers and helpers of Jabal-e-Noor Paribahan on seven days' remand each, in connection with a case filed over the accident that killed two students of Shaheed Ramiz Uddin Cantonment College on the city's Airport Road on July 29. Two buses of the company were recklessly competing with each other to pick up passengers, causing the accident.
The arrestees are bus drivers Jubair Hossain and Sohag Ali, and helpers Mohammad Ripon and Enayet Hossain.
Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Md Kaisarul Islam passed the order after Detective Branch (DB) Inspector Qazi Shariful Islam, also the investigation officer (IO) of the case, produced them before the court.
The four persons were involved in reckless driving that claimed the lives of the two students and injured many others, the IO said in the remand prayer.
They need to be taken into custody for further interrogation, the IO also said in the prayer.
Advocate Raihanul Islam, lawyer for the four accused, submitted bail petitions for them along with a plea for cancellation of the remand prayer.
In the petitions the lawyer said his clients are not employees of the privately-run bus service, and was not on the buses during the incident.
Earlier, on August 1, another court placed Masum Billah, the driver of the bus that hit the students, on a seven-day remand.
The next day, Shahadat Hossain, owner of Jabal-e-Noor Paribahan, was also put on a seven-day remand in the same case.
