Shimulia-Kathalbari ferry services resume in limited operation
The ferry services on Shimulia-Kathalbari route in the Padma River under Lauhajang upazila of Munshiganj have resumed today in a limited operation, after the services halted yesterday due to poor navigability.
Only nine out of 21 ferries are plying on the route carrying only emergency and small vehicles, reports our Munshiganj correspondent.
Around 200 vehicles including good-laden trucks are stuck on both ends of the route and the passengers are suffering immensely at Shimulia, the entry point to 21 districts of the country.
Meanwhile, eight dredgers are working to deepen the ferry channel to improve navigability on the route.
Earlier yesterday, the ferry services on Shimulia-Kanthalbari were suspended due to poor navigability, as the channel had only 5 feet water whereas it needs 7-8 feet for ferry operation.
