Mahjabin circulated prerecorded audio to spread rumuors: Rab
The businesswoman, who was arrested in Dhaka's Hazaribagh on Thursday, circulated a prerecorded audio file to spread rumours over the recent student protest, Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) claimed today.
Rab arrested Faria Mahjabin, 28, owner of Nerdy Bean Coffee Haus in Dhanmondi, under the controversial section 57 of the ICT Act for “spreading rumours and sharing provocative posts” on social media.
"She made this prerecorded statement… audio file… and she circulated this audio file over net," Director General (DG) of Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) Benazir Ahmed said while briefing journalists at Rab media centre in Dhaka's Karwan Bazar this noon.
“The woman, as a graduate in computer science, knows how to use it,” the RAB DG said adding that she "deliberately" recorded it as a voice statement and distributed on social media except using Facebook.
"She did not use normal Facebook, she was very smart," Benazir said.
"What are these? These are simply to take our country to the edge of destruction," the Rab DG suspected.
The Rab DG played the audio file for the journalists from his own mobile phone.
