Aug 21 grenade attack verdict likely in Sept

The verdict of deadly grenade attacks carried out targeting an Awami League rally on August 21, 2004 will be delivered in September, Law Minister Anisul Huq expressed hopes today.

He came up with the remarks while speaking at a programme demanding swift trial of August 21 grenade attack and to bring the killers of Bangabandhu back to the country.

August 21 Bangladesh, an organisation for the victims and the martyrs of August 21 grenade attack, today organised the discussion meeting at Jatiya Press Club in Dhaka.

The government is already holding talks with the governments of both USA and Canada to bring back the absconding killers of Bangabandhu, Lt Col (retd) Rashed Choudhury and Lt Col (retd) Noor Chowdhury, respectively, to the country, Anisul said.

There is some progress in the process of bringing back both of them, he said without specifying further.

National election

When asked about the political parties taking part in the upcoming national election, he said that if any political party does not participate in the election, the election will not be questionable.

He said BNP is not a political party of the people as it had been formed after it took over the state power through conspiracy.

Food Minister Qamrul Islam who spoke at the meeting as special guest accused BNP leader Tarique Rahman as the master mind of the August 21 grenade attack.
