BNP to face new crisis over Aug 21 grenade attack verdict: Quader
Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader today said BNP will be facing new political crisis after the verdict on the August 21 grenade attack at an Awami League rally as the party is directly related to the crime.
Quader, also the minister for Road Transport and Bridges, made the remark while talking to the journalists after he paid his respect to AL leader Ivy Rahman at her grave in Banani on her death anniversary, reports Bangla daily Prothom Alo.
BNP is not happy with the fact that the verdict would be given soon and they are trying to foil it as the party was behind the attack, he said.
In reply to another query, the minister alleged that BNP created a chaotic situation before the previous election, but they were unsuccessful.
The law enforcers and Awami League are working with caution this time, therefore situation would remain normal. If anyone tries to foil the election, people would turn their back on them, Quader said.
The deadly grenade attack was carried out on August 21, 2004 targeting an Awami League rally in which a total of 24 AL leaders and activists were killed including Ivy Rahman, the then Mohila Awami League president and wife of late president Zillur Rahman, while 500 others were injured.
The verdict of the case will be delivered this September.
