2 UPDF members shot dead in Rangamati
Two members of United People’s Democratic Front (UPDF) were shot dead by a group of unidentified criminals in Rangamati’s Naniarchar upazila early today.
The deceased are Syamal Chakma, 38, and Akarshon Chakma, 40, both were members of the Chittagong Hill Tracts-based political group UPDF, our Rangamati correspondent reports quoting police.
Muhammad Abdul Latif, officer-in-charge (OC) of Naniarchar Police Station, said the UPDF members were sleeping in a house at Ramsupari Para village under Sabekkhong at night. A group of armed men opened fire on the house during the wee hours, leaving them dead on the spot.
On information, police rushed to the spot and recovered the bodies from the spot.
In a statement, Sochol Chakma, organiser of Rangamati unit UPDF, blamed the PCJSS (MN Larma) for the murder.
He also demanded immediate arrests of the killers.
But the PCJSS (MN Larma) denied any involvement in the incident.
