Bus services from Mohakhali terminal resume after 5hrs
Long-route bus services from Mohakhali terminal resumed this morning five hours after transport workers suspended operations protesting an assault on a fellow driver by locals.
The transport workers suspended the operation around 6:00am, Prabir Kumar Roy, deputy commissioner of North Division (Traffic), Dhaka Metropolitan Police, told The Daily Star.
The services resumed around 11:30am after police arrested one of the "attackers", the police official said.
Locals said an altercation took place between the driver of an 'Nishita Paribahan' bus and local people over using hydraulic horn in front of icddr,b Mohakhali office around 11:00pm on Monday.
At one stage, the bus driver was hit on his head, they said.
Protesting the assault, the bus drivers and their helpers put a barricade on the road right after the incident halting vehicular movement for around an hour in Tejgaon and Mohakhali areas, a transport leader said.
Later, the barricade was cleared after police intervention, he added.
