Jyotika Jyoti to light up Kolkata
Having started her career with tele-fictions, Jyotika Jyoti has gone on to star in a number of notable films. For the first time in her career, the veteran actor will star in a film from the other side of the border.
Tell us about the film that you shot in Kolkata.
The film's name is Rajlaxmi o Srikanta. It is an adaptation of the famous novel by Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay, and will be directed by Pabitra Bhattacharya. I am playing the character of Rajlaxmi. The shooting and dubbing of the film have ended, and I am waiting for the release of the film.
When will the film be released?
I am hoping that it will be released by November throughout West Bengal. We are also trying to release it in Bangladesh, as I am very hopeful that the audience will like it.
How much did you enjoy shooting for the first time in Kolkata?
I was actually very scared at first. It reminded me of the time that I acted in a Bangladeshi tele-fiction for the first time at the beginning of my career, I couldn't sleep all night. The primary reason for my anxiety was the fact that the likes of Suchitra Sen and Shabana had previously portrayed Rajlaxmi, so I was under a lot of pressure.
Did the tension carry over to the shooting spot?
Thankfully, no. I prepared for the role of Rajlaxmi for more than a year, and I was diligent about it. Ritwick Chakraborty, who played Srikanta, is also a very talented actor. The entire crew made me feel at home, so I am grateful about that.
What are the other projects that you're busy with?
I have recently acted in Masud Pathik's Maya, which is currently in the dubbing phase. I am also doing some documentary films, and a short film as well. I am trying to concentrate on cinema at the moment.
