332kg ‘Khat’ seized at Dhaka airport
Customs officials seized 332 kilogrammes of Khat, a new psychoactive substance (NPS), at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport this morning.
The drug that looks like green tea is ingested by dissolving in water.
The consignment reached the airport by a flight of Singapore Airlines on August 23 and was kept at the cargo unit, said Othello Chowdhury, deputy commissioner of Dhaka Customs House.
It was imported from Nairobi of Kenya.
The preventive team of Dhaka Customs had been looking for the consignment of the NPS drug and seized it around 11:00am this morning from the cargo unit following a lead, he added.
Notably, this is the sixth consignment of the NPS seized at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport so far. The previous consignments were imported from Ethiopia. It will be handed over to the Narcotics Control Department for taking legal steps.
