Bangladesh to host global parliamentary conference
Bangladesh will host the 136th Assembly of Inter Parliamentary Union (IPU) on March 2017 said an IPU press release today.
The announcement was made by IPU President Saber Hossain Chowdhury, a ruling party lawmaker of Bangladesh, at IPU's 133rd assembly in Geneva, Switzerland.
The event is expected to be the largest ever international event in the country’s history.
IPU, the global organization of world's parliaments, currently consists of 167 national parliaments which comprises over 45,000 MPs that represent 6.5 billion people across the world.
Bangladesh was chosen by the governing council over Russia and Israel, who also expressed strong interest to host the 2017 Assembly.
Meanwhile, a team from IPU headquarters is expected to visit Bangladesh to review logistic facilities and sign an agreement in this regard.
Lusaka, Zambia will be hosting IPU's March 2016 Assembly.
