Mithun looking for ‘fulfilment’
Mohammad Mithun, one of Bangladesh's four new inclusions in the Test squad values Test cricket highly and he said that being able to find success in Test cricket will give him a sense of fulfillment.
Test cricket has always been considered as the format which tests the mindset of cricketers both mentally and physically. Mithun was of the opinion that when he can score runs in Tests, he will consider himself fit for cricket in general.
"I feel that as a player, I would reach fulfillment when I can play Tests. When I can perform in Test cricket then as a batsman I would feel fit for cricket. It was a dream that 'I wanted to perform when I had the opportunity'," he said.
He also informed that he was not expecting a call-up to the Test squad. Mithun had played well in the Asia Cup and then also came good in the ODI series against Zimbabwe. "My dream was to play Test match. I did not expect that this will happen. Even after it came in the papers I did not know since I don't usually watch the papers. Then a journalist let me know that I was included in the squad. It felt great to find that out," he said on how he came to know about his inclusion.
The batsman was able to mix aggression with being able to show sensibility in ODI format. Mithun showed a penchant for playing the big shots but also able to play natural strokes to score his runs.
Most importantly, he showed a positive intent when he bats and his words revealed what kind of temperament he will go out to bat with if he makes his Test debut in Sylhet.
"No matter how long you stay at the wicket, if a batsman is not scoring then he is not set. My mindset is obviously to take my time at the crease but to also punish the bad balls.
"As a batsman the pressure decreases if I can score some early runs. Obviously if the situation is difficult then I have to buckle up and survive but if I go to bat and find that there is option to play scoring shots then I will do that," he concluded.
