Actors' Equity addresses the status quo

It was a star studded auditorium, cameras all around, with the required lighting ambience. Almost all the seats were occupied. But this was no award show or anything of that manner, and everyone present was in their regular attire. It felt rather unusual to be surrounded by celebrities from the tele-fiction industry as the audience. On Friday, Obhinoy Shilpi Shongho arranged a discussion session at Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy's Jatiya Chitrashala to discuss the 'lack of professionalism' in television and among artistes. Actors, directors, producers, playwrights and other prominent individuals from the arena were present at the event. Their core objective was to address the issue of the current state of tele-fictions in Bangladesh and its urgency for revival.

Various views were expressed by the artistes along with probable solutions. The heated topic of discussion revolved around the facts that how, due to low budgets, the quality of the art was being attacked. They also discussed how the audience was losing interest in local tele-fictions due to, the mushrooming channels' failure to maintain quality and creativity, the lack of policy in the industry, inaccurate TRPs and much more, which all intertwined to weigh down the essence of the art that was once an integral part of our entertainment culture.

Renowned personalities like Mamunur Rashid, Abul Hayat, Enamul Haque, S A Haque Olike, Mosharraf Karim, Chanchal Chowdhury, Ejaz Munna, Shahidul Alam Sachchu, Ahsan Habib Nasim, Afroza Banu, Masum Reza, Azad Abul Kalam and Hillol were amongst the many who spoke at the event. During the end of the dialogue, it was announced that after two weeks, a roundtable discussion will take place to resolve the issues, and implement the suggested policies and ideas that were discussed along with the proper authoritative measures.
