Holder out of tour

The first contingent of the West Indies team arrive at the Radisson Blu Hotel in Chattogram last night after flying to Dhaka from India in the evening. The rest of the squad is scheduled to arrive today. West Indies' month-long tour of Bangladesh will commence with a two-day practice match against BCB XI at the port city on November 18. West Indies captain Jason Holder has been ruled out of his side's tour of Bangladesh with a shoulder injury. Opening batsman Kraigg Brathwaite will captain the team in his absence on the near month-long tour.

Holder is suffering from "a partial thickness tear of the subscapularis tendon in his shoulder", and will undergo physiotherapy and rehab back home in Barbados.

"Jason has a partial thickness tear of his subscapularis tendon. He will undergo physiotherapy and strength work from the period November to December and will be reassessed in four weeks time," Johnny Grave, Cricket West Indies (CWI) CEO, confirmed to Carribean News Service.

The injury comes as a blow to West Indies on a tour where they will hold realistic hopes of claiming an elusive overseas series win, with Holder not just West Indies captain, but also one of their most reliable performers. This year he has averaged 37 with the bat and 12 with the ball in Test cricket.

"I am definitely disappointed not being able to make the tour of Bangladesh, but based on advice from the medical team, we felt this was the best course of action to deal with the ongoing issues I have been having with my shoulder," Holder said.

West Indies will take on Bangladesh in two Tests, three ODIs, and three T20Is, with the Test series beginning on November 22 in Chattogram.

Meanwhile, the Bangladesh Cricket Board announced the squad for the two-day warm up match against the West Indies from 18-19 November at MA Aziz Stadium, Chattogram.

SQUAD: Rubel Hossain (Captain), Soumya Sarker, Zakir Hossain, Mizanur Rahman, Fazle Mahmud Rabbi, Ebadat Hossain, Sadman Islam, Nazmul Hossain Shanto, Nayeem Hasan, Shafiul Islam, Robiul Haque, Mohammad Mithun, Rishad Ahmed.
