IN REMEMBRANCE OF AMJAD HOSSAIN
National Award winning actor and filmmaker Amjad Hossain passed away on December 14, 2018. He took his last breath at Bumrungrad hospital in Bangkok nearly a month after suffering a stroke. The general secretary of the Director's Guild SA Haque Alik confirmed the news and said that his body will be brought back to Bangladesh. The Ekushey Padak winner was taken to Bangkok on November 27 around 1am. His sons Sajjad Hossain Dodul and Sohel Arman went with him. Amjad was born on August 14, 1942 in Jamalpur. He had been interested in literature from childhood. He came to Dhaka in the 1950s and got involved in writing and theatre. Later in his career he became a prominent face of the film industry. On November 18, 2018 he suffered a stroke and was admitted to a hospital in Tejgaon. On hearing the news, Honorable Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina assured that she would take full responsibility for his medical treatment. Amjad Hossian came into the film industry in the year 1961 with the movie, Harano Din. Later he got affiliated to direction and filmmaking. His debut as a filmmaker was with the 1967 film, Agun Niye Khela. He made critically acclaimed movies like Noyonmoni, Golapi Ekhon Traine, and Bhaat De. He won the National Award for direction in Golapi Ekhon Traine, and Bhaat De. Amjad Hossain was also a recipient of the Ekushey Padak and Shadhinota Puroshkar.
