Govt implicating BNP men in ‘false’ cases: Fakhrul
BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir today blamed the government for its effort to eliminate the party from the country by implicating its leaders and activists with “false and baseless” cases.
“The Awami League has become crazy to eliminate BNP for prolonging its one-party rule by sending its leaders to jail after implicating them with false, fabricated and baseless cases,” Fakhrul said.
The BNP leader came up with the allegation in a press statement issued today protesting the arrest of Saiful Islam Firoz, senior joint general secretary of the party’s voluntary wing Jatiyatabadi Sechhasebak Dal.
Firoz, who was BNP nominated candidate for Jhenidah-4 constituency in the December 30 national election, appeared before a court on Wednesday in connection with a “false and politically motivated case” and the court sent him to jail without granting bail, the statement read.
Terming the government as an isolated one from mass people, Fakhrul condemned the ruling quarter for sending Firoz to jail and demanded his immediate release.
