Barber gives autistic boy his first haircut
The touching story of a barber who went to great lengths to give an autistic boy his first haircut melted the heart of millions online.
James Williams, known as "Jim the Trim," is a barber from Neath Port Talbot in Wales, UK. On Tuesday, he shared his story on Facebook on how he helped Mason a little boy recently diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) overcome his fear and get his “first proper haircut”, reports Mashable.
Over the past few months, Williams has been trying to find different ways to cut Mason's hair, he wrote on Facebook. He explained that Mason would often run away in fear.
"But today I finally achieved it," he continued on November 3."We both layed [sic] on the floor in silence & he allowed me to cut away & give him his first proper haircut."
People diagnosed with ASD may experience increased sensitivity which can make everyday situations more uncomfortable or distressing. Williams said that by making Mason's parents happy, he'd achieved something in a job he loves.
"They deserve more credit," Williams wrote in a later post, thanking Mason's parents for allowing him to be a part of their journey. "It was all new to them."
At the time of writing, Williams' post has been shared hundreds of times — with an overwhelmingly positive response.
