Option for locking stolen phone soon: BTRC
Do you want to lock your stolen phone and make it unusable for the thief?
The good news is in a few months, mobile phone users in Bangladesh will be able to lock their stolen phones.
For all latest news, follow The Daily Star's Google News channel. Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) will launch the service called International Mobile Equipment Identity (IMEI) number database tomorrow, a senior BTRC official said.
With this IMEI database, users' mobile handset identity will be linked and stored along with the SIM card number and national ID details.
This way, if any phone is stolen then the owner will be able to lock that phone by applying through the right channels.
The theft of handsets will decrease significantly through this technology.
You can send your IMEI number through an SMS to 16002 to check whether your IMEI has been included in the database.
