Bangladesh seeks to expand ties with US
Bangladesh is looking forward to expanding bilateral relationship with the United States in a multi-sectoral context.
Foreign Secretary Md Shahidul Haque conveyed the message to USAid Administrator Mark Green and US Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs Ambassador David Hale during a meeting held in Washington on Tuesday (local time).
The secretary pointed out that the new government’s priority, identified by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, is good governance and zero-tolerance against corruption.
Expressing optimism on expanding the bilateral relationship in a multi-sectoral context, he also sought US support in resolving the Rohingya crisis.
Haque also that if the US investors come forward, Bangladesh would be happy to offer one of its special economic zones to them.
The US officials lauded Bangladesh’s generosity towards the Rohingya community and assured full support towards the solution of the Rohingya crisis.
While they termed Bangladesh as a partner that highly matters to them, they were also appreciative of commitments and initiatives to nab corruption, combat terrorism and prevent human trafficking.
