Ex-cop Jahid denied HC bail
The High Court today rejected two bail petitions filed by a sacked sub-Inspector of Mirpur Police Station, Jahidur Rahman Khan, on charges of killing two persons in police custody.
The HC bench of Justice Kamrul Islam Siddik and Justice Gobinda Chandra Tagore rejected the petitions considering that the petitions were not placed before it properly.
The cases have been filed after Mahbubur Rahman Sujan and Istiaq Ahmed Jony were allegedly tortured to death in police custody on July 20 and August 7 respectively last year.
Later, Sujan’s wife Momotaz Sultana Lucy and Jony’s father Imtiaz Hossain filed two separate cases with a Dhaka court against SI Jahid, accusing him of torturing Sujan and Jony to death in the custody.
Jahid on November 1 filed two petitions with the HC seeking bail in the cases.
After a brief hearing, the HC bench today rejected the bail petitions, Deputy Attorney General Bashir Ullah told The Daily Star.
Rezaul Karim Razu, Jahid’s lawyer appeared before the court today on behalf of the accused.
