Widebody daily

The Toyota Corolla 100. Where to begin? How about the fact that it's probably one of the most reliable workhorses you can buy? It'll take all the abuse you throw at it and more, never once complaining about its state of disrepair or neglect. If maintained, they last forever and are so easy to fix you can even do it yourself. If you decide a mechanic is a better option, chances are the mechanic was trained in the trade with the Corolla 100, meaning most of them know the car inside-out.

With a few additions here and there, you can turn the humble Corolla 100 into a head turner on a budget, much like Syed Abrar'swidebody wagon. On top of the wealth of pros for the Corolla 100 sedan, the wagon version adds a boatload of utility in the form of a large trunk and plenty of headroom. With hot, high-performance versions like the Corolla 100 BZ-Touring wagon, this 27 year old estate car has plenty of sources for inspiration if you want to customise it as well—the BZ-Touring got the 1.6 litre 4AGE high compression performance motor, while regular 100s got the endlessly common 1.5 litre 5AFE. There's no chance of getting your hands on a genuine BZ-Touring or even the more basic Touring version, but there are quite a few of the regular wagons floating around, ripe for the taking. Buy it, lower it, stance it and make it cool, like Abrar did.

You'd think turning a basic economy wagon into a low-riding estate with massive over fenders would ruin its usability as a daily driven car, but Abrar's wagon laughs in the face of such accusations. He daily drives it on the worst road conditions—occasionally bounding over bumpy dirt roads with ease. It doesn't have a performance motor either, just a basic, easy-to-fix and cheap-to-run 5AFE paired to an extremely convenient automatic gearbox. It won't set quarter miles ablaze, but if you ever want to do a fuel efficiency run, you better bring your A-game to the starting grid. The lowered stance, wheel spacers and copious amounts of negative camber on the dished wheels do affect the ride quality a little, but it's nothing you won't get used to.

If you want a great all-rounder that turns more heads than a basic daily driver, this is the wagon for you.
