Hearts aflutter for Falgun festivities!

Do you feel the change in the air? The morning sun shines a little brighter and warmer, there is a nip in the air that's pleasantly refreshing, little buds are blossoming into blousy flowers! Spring has sprung in the fabled city of Dhaka, and we are mighty pleased! Following a raucous winter full of weddings, parties, cold spells, velvets and furs, it is finally time to embrace nature's bounty. This is a precious time for Dhakaites; cold, but magical winter that envelopes the city with a spirit of festivity, and liveliness giving away to soothing days of sunshine and verdant evenings redolent with promise of boundless delight. Spring marks new beginnings for all creatures of Mother Earth. So is it any wonder that we Bengalis, party-loving as we are, usher it in with much pomp and circumstance? This year will not be any different; Pahela Falgun is yet another reason to celebrate life in all its Technicolour glory!

First days of Falgun are sunny; nature affects a lush, verdant facade. Naturally, yellow and green rules the roost when it comes to colours to wear for Falgun celebrations. In all its forms, yellow and green is a match made in sartorial heaven. Imagine a fresh lemon yellow sari with lime green blouse, or a bottle green kurta with a primrose yellow dupatta. A muslin egg yolk yellow sari with delicate green and gold embroidery is perfect for the day, as is a Taant sari in a similar colour palette. Organic, handloom saris printed with vegetable dyes bring out mild, soothing shades of yellow and green that are not only fashionably pleasing, but also environmentally responsible. A sage green kurta in endi cotton with a yellow dupatta is another option for the day.

If contrasting colours is not your cup of tea, how about choosing one colour instead? On its own, yellow is a fabulous hue, as is green. Both colours complement all skin tones, and there is always something for everyone. A moss green silk sari with bottle green print or embroidery is chic without a doubt, and is perfect for nights. Printed chiffon saris are a classic. Floral seems to be ideal for Falgun celebrations. What could be better than a canary yellow chiffon sari on a Falgun evening? Another option is a jade green georgette with ruffled or sleeveless blouse, perhaps in gold silk for a touch of drama. Anarkali style kameez is back with a bang. Go for a solid coloured one with a statement embroidered neckline or border. Kurta is another option, comfortable and classy. Whatever your choice may be, don't forget to accessorise with fresh flowers, glass bangles, teep and a happy, cheery attitude!
