Man gets life term for raping schoolgirl

A Manikganj court today sentenced life term rigorous imprisonment to a man for raping a schoolgirl after kidnapping her in Singair upazila of the district in 2007.

The court also fined the convict, Golam Mostafa, 35, son of Mofiz Uddin of Sudkhira village in the same upazila, Tk 50,000, our Manikganj correspondent reports quoting a public prosecutor.

Mohammad Ali Hossain, judge of Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal in Manikganj passed the order in the absence of the convict, said special public prosecutor AKM Nurul Huda Rubel.

The PP said convict Mostofa with the help of his associates obstructed a schoolgirl on her way to her school and took her into a microbus on the morning of March 15, 2007.

Mostofa kept the girl in different places and raped her, said PP Mohammad Ali.

Later, police rescued the victim and recorded her statement after completing the medical examination, he said.

Anwar Hossain, sub-inspector of Singair Police Station, submitted the charge sheet against the accused before the Tribunal on July 24, 2007, under Section 9 (1) of the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act 2000.

 A total of 12 witnesses were examined in the case, the PP said.
