The Endless Beach
The sun-baked beaches of Cox's Bazar offer a temporary getaway from lazy winters for many Bangladeshis. Legend has it that when the Mughal Prince Shah Shuja was passing through the forested hills of the area, he was so enchanted with its beauty, he camped here with one thousand palanquins. A part of the same beauty that captivated Shah Suja exists even today. Around January, a number of events are held at various points in the largest chain of unbroken beach in the world. Concerts and fireworks abound while the famous kite festival paints the sky with radiant colours. Visitors at the beach can lap up the waves, enjoy a brisk horse-ride or get their adrenaline pumping on all-terrain vehicles which can be rented. There are also enough markets to purchase mementos of an eventful trip. Come dusk, the sun tucks itself into a blanket of blue sea while the party goes on below.
