Fakhrul condemns deaths in BGB firing
BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has expressed strong condemnation to the incident of killings of three people by Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) members in Thakurgaon's Baharampur village.
“It is not a symptom of good governance where the law enforcement agencies rapidly using arms. It is rather a part of desparate and unlawful activities,” Fakhrul said in a statement today
Three people were killed and at least 16 others suffered bullet wounds as members of a BGB patrol team opened fire following a scuffle with locals in Thakurgaon's Baharampur village yesterday.
“No person is permitted by law to kill anyone without trial,” Fakhrul said adding that law enforcement agencies are encouraged for committing such unlawful acts when an unconstitutional government rules a country.
Claiming that the Indian Border Security Force (BSF) has been killing Bangladeshi people since long, he said security of lives of the people in bordering area will go in vain if BGB men are encouraged in committing the same activities.
“People have started raising question that whose interest has been served by the BGB men? Jungle law will be established in the country if the prevailing situation continues,” he said.
The law enforcement agencies are seen uninterested in maintaining law and order while the criminal activities like abduction, killing and repression on woman and children have become a regular phenomenon, he said.
Social offenders are prowling across the country while the law enforcers are being used for political purpose, he said.
Social chaos has taken into a terrible turn and the people have already plunged into a state of deep panic and fear, the BNP leader said.
He said the country has submerged in the darkness of the misdeeds and blood is secreting everywhere from the capital to peripheral parts of the country, he alleged referring to the killing incident.
The situation cannot be prolonged as the accumulated anger of the repressed and oppressed people might explode anytime, he said.
The people must form a strong resistance against the ongoing misdeeds collectively ignoring all fear, the BNP leader expressed his optimism.
He also strongly demanded fair investigation into the yesterday’s killing incident in Thakurgaon's Baharampur village and exemplary punishment of the real offenders.
