All 49 aspirants for reserved seats set to be elected uncontested
All the 49 aspirants for election to the parliamentary reserved seats for women are set to be elected uncontested as they are the only candidates from their respective areas.
The Election Commission will announce the final list of the aspirants to be elected for the women reserved seats tomorrow, Returning Officer Abul Kashem told The Daily Star.
“Today was the last date for withdrawal of nomination papers. No one of the aspirants withdrew their nomination papers till the last date,” the RO said.
According to the EC, 43 Awami League candidates, four Jatiya Party candidates and one Workers' Party of Bangladesh aspirant submitted nomination papers for the election to the 50 reserved seats of the 11th parliament.
The reserved seats for women are allocated to political parties in proportion with their number of seats in parliament. Accordingly, 43 seats are allotted to Awami League, four to Jatiya Party, one apiece for BNP and Jatiya Oikyafront, Workers' Party and independent candidates.
Earlier on February 12, the EC declared valid the nominations of 49 aspirants after scrutiny.
