Expunge JP MP's remarks: Shahjahan Khan
Former shipping minister Shahjahan Khan today slammed opposition MP Fakhrul Imam for raising a question about formation of a committee headed by him for restoring discipline in the transport sector and demanded that the Speaker expunge the Jatiya Party MP’s remarks.
“Fakhrul Imam made a remark about me in which he connected illegal drug peddling with road accident. It is very regrettable and condemnable,” Shahjahan Khan said.
He came up with the statement under section 274 of rules of procedure of parliament minutes after Fakhrul criticised him.
Shahjahan also demanded that the opposition MP withdraw his remarks.
Later Speaker Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury who was presiding over the sitting at that time said she will look into the matter.
What did the JP MP say?
Fakhurl Imam raised question before the parliament for making Shahjahan Khan the head of a committee formed to prevent road accidents.
“Committee on illegal drug control is headed by Bodi [controversial former Awami League MP Abdur Rahman Bodi] and committee to prevent road accidents is headed by Shahjahan Khan, who earlier said ‘a driver does not need to be educated to get a driving licence, if he can differentiate between a cow and a goat, he can get license’,” JP MP Fakhrul Imam said while raising a supplementary question.
A 15-member committee was formed yesterday, led by Shahjahan Khan, to give recommendations for preventing road accidents and bringing discipline in the road transport sector.
