A year without Sabah Tani

Singer Sabah Tani 1st Death Anniversary

One of the most popular pop singers in Bangladesh during the 80s-90s, Sabah Tani had a unique combination of  good looks, natural charm and a colorful presentation. She had a huge following during her time, especially from the youth who looked up to her as a pop idol. Kono Boishakhi Rathe Jodi and Kichukkhon are two of her most timeless tracks, and are still remembered by classic pop fans today. Today marks a year of her untimely death.

"Sabah Tani was a bubbly teenager trapped in the body of a 43-year-old woman," writes popular singer Elita Karim in the article 'Farewell, Sabah Apa' for Star Weekend, "She was happy, loved to cook and talk about age-old recipes, was always talking about her ancestral home in Korotia, Tangail where she had grown up. She was a wonderful story-teller."

Even though the singer lived abroad, she had occasionally returned to the country to do shows. Her sporadic appearances were received with much gusto and joy amidst both the musical fraternity and music enthusiasts alike. Her happy soul often veiled the plague of personal problems surrounding her life.

Sabah Tani had succumbed to low blood pressure on this day a year ago, and the nation was shook at the loss of a beloved singer. The Daily Star family hopes that her departed soul rests in peace.
