The body of alleged Biman hijacker has a single bullet hole suggesting that he was shot from the front, police said after receiving the body.

Bullet mark is on the right side of the abdomen, said Zahidul Islam, assistant commissioner (Patenga zone) of Chattogram Metropolitan Police, today.

There is no hole in the back, suggesting that the alleged hijacker was shot only once from the front, our local staff correspondent reports quoting him.

The body has been handed over to Patenga Police Station. Now, police are working to ascertain the identity of the “hijacker”.

“Only the body has been handed over to police. No evidence or anything else has been handed over,” said police officer Zahidul Islam.

He added, a decisive conclusion will be obtained after autopsy.

A CRIMINAL OF NARAYANGANJ?

Law enforcers have said the alleged Biman hijacker is a listed criminal of Narayanganj.

Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) said it found fingerprint match with the “hijacker” with one Md Palash Ahmed, a criminal from Narayanganj’s Sonargaon.

Mufti Mahmud Khan, director of the elite force’s legal and media wing, confirmed The Daily Star of the development this morning, 17 hours after the incident.

He added, the BG 147 Flight had a seat reserved to Ahmed/Md Polash. He was a passenger of domestic flight from Dhaka to Chattogram.

Previously, after the commando operation neutralised the “hijacker”, authorities at the airport said he identified himself as one Mahadi, a man in his mid-20s.

WHAT HAPPENED IN BIMAN FLIGHT?

A flight of the national flag carrier Biman Bangladesh Airlines was allegedly hijacked yesterday at Chattogram’s Shah Amanat International Airport.

The plane was landed on an emergency basis and all the 148 passengers on board were evacuated safely. All the cabin crew members were also safe.

Later, the alleged hijacker, who was said to have been in his mid-20s and armed with a pistol, was neutralised in a swift commando operation of eight minutes.

Afterwards, the officials said the “hijacker” appeared to have been “mentally imbalanced” and that he wanted to speak to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
