New Zealand firmly on top after Day 2
New Zealand addded a further 125 runs in the third session before stumps were called on Day 2 with the hosts firmly on top. Captain Kane Williamson, unbeaten on 93 is the third batsmen who can score a hundred for New Zealand in this innings. He put together a hundred-run partnership with Henry Nicholls for the fourth wicket before spinner Mehedi Hasan Miraz finally had something to smile about towards the end of the day, bagging Nicholls after the left-hander reached fifty.
Earlier, part-time bowlers gave some respite to Bangladesh after the twin tons from openers Tom Latham and Jeet Raval had put them to the sword. The opening partnership of 254 runs was broken by Mahmudullah Riyad before tea. Soumya Sarkar then provided twin breakthroughs -- extracting some movement with his gentle medium pace, to remove Latham and Ross Taylor.
New Zealand lead is currently 217 and Tigers will have another difficult day to look forward to when they take the field tomorrow.

84.3: New Zealand 333/2. Soumya Sarkar, who dropped Latham at slips yesterday while he was on naught, induces an outside-edge with an angled delivery and Mithun takes the catch at slip cordon. Latham goes after a brilliant 161. Latham c Mohammad Mithun b Soumya Sarkar 161 (368m 248b 17x4 3x6) SR: 64.91
82.6: Tea, New Zealand 326/1. After a mammoth 254-run opening stand between twin centurions Jeet Raval and Tom Latham that took New Zealand 20 runs past Bangladesh's first innings 234, skipper Kane Williams accompanies the latter to take New Zealand to 326 for one at tea on the second day of the first Test in Hamilton.
It gives the hosts a 92-run first-innings lead with nine wickets in hand, and they will surely be looking to bat just once in this Test match and continue Bangladesh's all-loss record in the country.
Bangladesh's bowling attack of pacers Ebadot Hossain, Abu Jayed, Khaled Ahmed and off-spinner Mehedi Hasan Miraz have looked relatively toothless so far. The two Kiwi openers have batted untroubled on what increasingly looks like a belter that requires a bit of judicious strokemaking, and it seems it will stay that way for the next day as well. Kiwi skipper Kane Williamson moves to 32 off 36 balls while Tom Latham takes a fulfilling cup of tea on 156 -- his ninth Test ton. New Zealand first innings 326/1 in 83 overs. Latham 156 (243b, 4x16, 6x3), Williamson 32 (36b, 4x3); Mahmudullah 1-3 (1 over)
78.5: New Zealand 313/1 in 79 overs. Latham 152 (233b), Williamson 23 (22b); Mahmudullah 1-3 (1 over) -- Tom Latham slices Soumya Sarkar past point for four to bring up his 150.
69.5: New Zealand 239/1. Latham 116 (200b) -- Bangladesh skipper Mahmudullah Riyad tries his part-time off-spin and off the fifth ball of his first over, draws Jeet Raval into a slog sweep against the turn. The resultant top edge swirls in the clear Hamilton sky and Khaled Ahmed at midwcket misjudges it, but manages to hand on after the ball lands in his palm in the midst of a backward stumble. Raval c Khaled b Mahmudullah 132 (220b, 4x9, 6x1)
64.3: New Zealand 239/0. Raval 120 (204b), Latham 109 (183b) -- Tom Latham taps Mehedi Hasan Miraz for a singly to take New Zealand past Bangladesh's first-innings total of 234.
60.5: New Zealand 220/0 in 59 overs. Raval 114 (196b), Latham 101 (171b) -- Tom Latham brings up his ninth Test match ton in rare streaky fashion. Abu Jayed bounces the left-hander and the slightly awkward hook drew shouts of "Catch it!" from the Bangladesh fielders, but the ball landed safely to the left of a scampering fine leg fielder and went for four.
LUNCH: New Zealand 197/0. Raval 114 (196b), Latham 83 (151b, 4x10, 6x1) -- The Kiwis reached 197 without loss at lunch -- an addition of 111 runs in 26 overs on the second morning. With Bangladesh's first innings score being an unimpressive 234 all out, the Kiwis need just 68 more runs to wipe out the deficit and start thinking about only batting once in the match. New Zealand opener Jeet Raval completed a maiden Test hundred and was batting on 109, while Tom Latham was quietly pursuing a landmark of his own, unbeaten on 83.
50.4: New Zealand 185 without loss; Raval 101 (163b), Latham 79 (142) -- Jeet Raval reaches his maiden Test century with a brace of boundaries, searing pull shots off Ebadot Hossain bouncers. He reached the mark in his 17th Test and 28th innings.
34.6: New Zealand 123 without loss; Raval 68 (112), Latham 51 (98) -- Tom Latham reaches his 16th Test fifty with a slash off Khaled Ahmed that passed precariously close to the point fielder before going for four.
