Police playing courageous role: Home minister
Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal has praised the bravery and courageous role of police saying that they are engaged in working to keep the country’s law and order stable.
The home minister said this while addressing a programme in observance of the Police Memorial Day at Mirpur Police Staff College in Dhaka this morning.
A foundation stone of “Police Memorial” has been set up in Dhaka to commemorate the policemen who sacrificed their lives while performing their duties.
Since 2017, the law enforcers have been observing the Police Memorial Day on March 1 commemorating the policemen who laid down their lives while preforming their duties.
Around 158 policemen met their tragic end of lives last year and family members of the victims and high ups of the police department including Inspector General of Police (IGP) Javed Patwary, among others, attended the programme.
The home minister also handed over Tk 50,000 and other complimentary gifts to the family members of the policemen who were killed during their duties in 2018.
Earlier, they also paid floral wreaths at the memorial seeking eternal peace of the departed souls and extended sympathy to the shocked family members.
They also paid a deep homage to the memorial with gun salute and observed a minute of solemn silence on this occasion.
