New BRTC buses from India arrive in Dhaka
New buses for the state-run Bangladesh Road Transport Corporation (BRTC) purchased from India has arrived in Dhaka; to be operational this week.
So far, 47 BRTC buses and 25 trucks have arrived, Almas Ali, spokesperson for BRTC, told The Daily Star today. “They are kept at Motijheel depot.”
The remaining of the contract for 600 buses and 500 trucks, purchased with line of credit from India, is expected to be arriving in April, he said.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will launch the new buses in a joint video conference with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi tomorrow.
“The new buses will by plying within one or two days after launch,” he said; adding that 42 of the buses already here are non-AC and five non-AC.
