Left panel leader claims attempted attack by BCL

A vice president aspirant of ongoing Dhaka University Central Students’ Union (Ducsu) election has claimed of attempted attack on him at Mohsin Hall.

Liton Nandi, leader of Progressive Students’ Alliance and Anti-Imperialist Students’ Union panel, told said the incident took place around 10:45am.

“When we went to visit the polling centre at Haji Muhammad Mohsin Hall, followers of Chhatra League leader Sunny chased us,” he told The Daily Star.

“Though we are candidates of the central panel, we were not allowed to enter,” he alleged. “We wanted to meet the provost. They drove us away.”

Our correspondent reports from the spot, an altercation ensued at the hall entrance and Chhatra League supporters charged on Nandi.

Going on further to reflect on the overall situation, he said: “From what we are seeing, we can assume that the voting is not free and fair.”
