Demand for national minority commission to be fulfilled: Minister
Law Minister Anisul Huq today assured the Ekattorer Ghatak Dalal Nirmul Committee that their demand for constituting the national minority commission must be fulfilled, saying that it is a matter of time.
The demand for forming the national minority commission will be placed before a cabinet meeting soon, he said.
The minister was speaking as chief guest to a seminar on “the spirit of the liberation war in Awami League’s election manifesto: duties of the government and citizen society” at Engineers Institution in Dhaka.
He said the demand for constituting the national minority commission was not raised during the regime of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
The demand was raised as the minority people were tortured and oppressed for a long period of time after 1975.
Even, they could not approach to the judiciary for justice for long 21 years after Bangabandhu and most of his family members were killed on August 15, 1975, Minister Anisul Huq said.
Justice Shamsul Huda, a former judge of the Appellate Division, presided over the seminar where former apex court judge, Justice AHM Shamsuddin Choudhury Manik, Prof Muntasir Mamun and Ekattorer Ghatak Dalal Nirmul Committee’s President Shahriar Kabir spoke.
