Nepalese victims recalled at Sylhet medical college

Students and teachers of Jalalabad Ragib-Rabeya Medical College (JRRMC) in Sylhet yesterday paid homage to 12 students of the college, who died in a tragic plane crash in Kathmandu, Nepal on March 12 last year.

Forty-nine people, including 26 Bangladeshis, were killed when a US-Bangla flight from Dhaka crashed in Kathmandu's Tribhuvan International Airport that day.

Among the deceased were 12 final year students of the college who were going homes after final exams.

Principal of the college Prof Md Abed Hossain said, “A memorial corner was built on the college campus after the plane crash, and we paid floral tributes to the memorial at around 10am”.

“A memorial programme was arranged in the gallery hall of the college, where a documentary on their lives at the medical college was screened. We have also provided special food for all admitted patients at the hospital in their memory,” he said.

A candle-light vigil was also held in the evening at the memorial corner.

JRRMC Hospital Director Prof Md Tarek Azad, Prof AKM Daud, head of all departments and students were present at the programmes.
