Swedish teen activist Greta Thunberg has been nominated three Norwegian lawmakers for the Nobel Peace Prize for her prominent voice in campaigns against climate change.

Greta, a 16-year-old school student, began her lone protest outside Sweden's parliament on August 20, 2018.

She raised her voice against the inaction of politicians regarding climate change by holding a hand-written plackard saying "SCHOOL STRIKE FOR CLIMATE".

Later, she continued her protest every Friday. Some of her school mates also joined her every Friday in the protest which went on to receive worldwide attention.

Inspired by her, teenage students all over the world in as many as 270 cities held strikes to make the world leaders realise the impact of climate change is greater than they perceive.

Greta Thunberg also gave a speech to 24th Conference of Parties (COP24) of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) held between December 2- December 15 last year in Katowice, Poland.

Thunberg has almost 250,000 followers on Twitter where her movement carries the hashtags #FridaysForFuture and #SchoolStrike4Climate.

She also talked on TEDx on climate change. The video, now carried on TED's main website, has garnered more than 1.2 million views.

Thunberg joined protests last month in Belgium, where she won a European Union pledge to spend billions of euros to combat climate change.
