Pro-AL lawyer elected SCBA president
Ruling Awami League-backed lawyers have won six out of 14 posts including that of the president in Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) elections held on Wednesday and Thursday.
Senior Advocate AM Aminuddin has been elected the president of the prime bar association of the country.
Pro-BNP lawyers have secured the rest eight posts including that of the secretary. Barrister AM Mahbub Uddin Khokhon has been elected the new SCBA secretary.
The election results were announced this afternoon after the two-day long voting ended yesterday.
About 6,135 lawyers out of the total 7,825 cast their votes in the capital’s SCBA auditorium.
Pro-Awami League lawyers Jasim Uddin and Kazi Shamsul Hasan Shuvo have been elected to the posts of vice president and assistant secretary while Afifa Afroz Rani, Chanchal Kumar Biswas and Shahim Sardar have been elected as executive members.
The seven other candidates from BNP-backed panel who were elected are Abdul Jabbar Bhuyan (vice president), Imam Hossain (Treasure), Sharif-U-Ahmed (assistant secretary), Kazi Akhter Hossain (executive member), Syed Shaheen Ara Laily (executive member), Rasheda Alam Oishee (executive member) and Osman Chowdhury (executive member).
