Two-day music festival at Jagannath University begins

A two-day music festival will start today at Jagannath University (JnU) campus, organised by their music department.

Professor Mijanur Rahman, VC, JnU, will inaugurate the festival at around 11 am, while  Anima Roy, Chairman of the department,  will chair the inaugural ceremony.

Eminent artists, namely Rabindranath Roy, Khairul Anam Shakil, Ferdous Ara, Aditi Mohsin, Avijit Kundu, and Jiman Karspel (Germany) will perform today from 2:30 pm. Rabindranath Tagore's dance drama 'Chitrangada' will also be held at the function.

Tomorrow, Rezwana Chowdhury Banna, Subir Nandi, Kiron Chandra Roy, Laisa Ahmed Lisa, Mohammad Shoyeb, Supriya Das, Shusen Roy, Rajrupa Chowdhury (India), Swagata Mukharjee (India) and Bittu Nittagusthi (India) will perform from 2:30pm onwards.

A musical seminar will be held at 11 am, where Professor Ashit Roy from Rajshahi University will present the key note speech, which will be chaired by Professor Mijanur Rahman, VC, JnU. Among others, Professor ABM Nurul Anowar, formerly at Bangladesh Agriculture University, and Professor Syed Manzoorul Islam from Dhaka University's English Department, will be present as special guests at the seminar.

Cultural personalities Kamal Lohani and Mita Haque will be honoured for their outstanding contributions to their respective fields.
